What Is Motion SicknessWhat is motion sickness?  Motion sickness, also called seasickness, is a common disturbance of the inner ear. This is the area of the body that affects your sense of balance and equilibrium. Motion sickness happens when your brain receives conflicting messages about motion and your body’s position in space. The conflicting messages are delivered from your inner ear, your eyes, your skin receptors, and muscle and joint sensors.

  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Salivation
  • Sweating
  • Belching
  • Acute awareness of the stomach
  • Vomiting
  • Hyperventilation

Control the situation

When a passenger is traveling by car but is not driving it, he may suffer motion sickness. In order to avoid motion sickness or its symptoms, the passenger should sit with the driver at the front seat and look at the horizon. Another thing that the passenger should avoid is reading as this may also cause motion sickness.

Food consumption

The passenger should reduce the eating and drinking especially alcoholic drinks. He also should not smoke. Avoidance of foods with strong odor would also lead to avoid motion sickness.

Perfect seating position

The passenger should choose such a seat where he finds less motion. If he is sitting on a plane, he should sit in the middle area. In the case of the ship, the passenger should sit near the cabins. If people are suffering from motion sickness, the one should try to be away from them as he can also feel the same if he keeps looking at them.

Equalize sensory cues

Keep gazing at the horizon if they are traveling by train, bus, or car. Looking here and there may also cause the sickness. This will help the passenger to avoid sickness.

Motivation

The passenger travelling with any mode of transport shall say to himself that he will not get sick. This motivating factor will also help him to avoid the sickness.

Get habitual to those things that cause sickness

The therapy is called desensitization therapy in which the person is exposed to those activities which cause the symptoms of motion sickness. The exposure should be for a short period and then the duration should be increased. This can minimize or even cure motion sickness.

Ginger can be used for treatment

Studies have found that if a passenger consumes two grams of ginger half an hour before traveling, he may not get the symptoms of motion sickness. If a passenger is on some medication, he will have to consult with the doctor before consuming ginger.

Pressure points

The person should make up his mind that he will not suffer from motion sickness during the travel. There are some pressure point devices which if a person wears like wrist bands having plastic bumps, it may also convince the brain that there will be no sickness during the travel.

These are a few tips which if a person adopts, he can avoid motion sickness and even cure it. He can make himself habitual of such things that causes the sickness and that will be helpful to avoid the sickness.
